theoretical knowledge
Why is not suitable for everyone.
Sometimes it is easier to tell people what they want to hear rather than what they need to know. Not everyone accepts the fact that the general concept or the idea Jeet Kune Do can be high, as any system design or philosophical practice.
Flashes of lights, screaming sirens. "Wait a minute what is it?". I can already hear people scream. We begin by defining the term "concept". It means an idea or thought, especially a generalized idea of \u200b\u200ba thing or set of things, an abstract notion.
Bruce Lee lived, breathed and dreamed of martial arts. It was the love of his life, his passion. While the average person can apply for a few minutes to an hour every day, Bruce Lee totally immersed himself in martial arts, almost 24 hours a day.
was a martial artist, an athlete and a scholar. As an artist, he felt physically numerous combat systems, methods and techniques, observing the strengths and weaknesses, trying to use against various counter-attacks and defenses, testing things to see if it worked and to what extent, adapting, changing and discarding. As an athlete, was a living example of a superb physical, showing strength, power, speed and flexibility. As a scholar, he spent hours and hours reading and studying the human body, all kinds of fighting arts and all philosophical: ancient and modern, East and West.
Where the jurisdiction of Bruce developed thanks to the countless hours of rigorous training and study, a person who applies two or three hours a week for about an hour at a time, and for the rest of the time it does nothing more or very little, as it can ever hope or expect to really understand JKD?
To be clear, I do not mean to reach only an intellectual understanding (theoretical knowledge), I mean rather a working knowledge of applied (an understanding based on experience). The JKD
corresponds to the total growth of an artist in martial arts: physical, spiritual and emotional. Its basic principle is the knowledge of themselves. A person who practices JKD need to know inside and out. But not all really want to spend time and energy necessary to truly know themselves. There is much work to do and most is not at all comfortable. Coming face to face with themselves as it can be liberating, is not always a happy experience. Some people think to know oneself, but actually only know their strengths or positive, refusing to see their weaknesses or negative, knowledge of oneself is a continuous process and goes hand in hand with self-care. Just look around to see the rapid development of materials available for the care of themselves. These books, tapes and seminars are full of important concepts, ideas and philosophies about how people can free themselves and help themselves to grow. Yet there are still people who are not growing. Why? Simple: some people are not ready or does not have the desire to help themselves. Do not read or heard anything of this material, while others read or hear, but not will gain any profit, while others, finally, will gain the result, but not enough to make it a real use. It is assumed that in JKD
the person develops a "critical mind." On the contrary, some people prefer an "official mind" gives them a sense of security. Other people, for one reason or another, needs a formal structure: may need belts and certificates it receives. A ten year old boy who just started the martial arts may not be ready for total freedom that JKD offers, or the efforts it requires. As stated Dan Inosanto:
"People have to start somewhere, even a child before expressing their independence needs to be taught that something ".
My instructor Dan Inosanto, often used to tell us:" If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day, but if you teach him to fish, you feed him for life. "The problem is that there are of people who do not want to learn to fish for themselves. They prefer that they be given a fish every day. Their attitude is: "I do not want me to say that I think to myself, looking for answers in me, and 'find Because of my ignorance '. 'S why I'm studying under you, that's why I'm paying. "
Bruce said that one of the reasons that always stops with all schools of JKD was arranged that he felt it was very easy for learners to exchange things to do for absolute truths and the program to play the way forward. Personally, I feel that part of the reason was that he realized how difficult it was for someone else to do what he did and that some would find it easier to follow, put their faith in him, or wait passively for it to be shown them the path.
To truly understand the JKD and get the maximum, it is necessary that a person is an artist in martial arts, an athlete and a scholar. As an artist, you should study the body and all types of combat actions. As an athlete, you have the responsibility to keep your body in perfect health. In his personal notes, Bruce wrote: "To safeguard their own health is a must. Few seem conscious that there is a moral physics. "As a scholar, you should explore, search and investigate what was said and done in the past. The evidence of an educated mind is not in his consciousness, but that knows how and where to look the information they need.
However, more than read only, you should also try to practice what you learn in everyday life.
It 'also important that you know what are your aims and goals in martial arts. Bruce knew where wanted to be physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally.
If you approach with vague goals, or you will not get the opportunistic freedom to change direction and follow a different path of research, nor the sure road flattened that will take you to a specific destination.
Some people do not want to see the truth that is in themselves or in martial arts. JKD is a process that leads to the liberation of themselves, but it is not an easy path. He expects a lot from the individual. As a conceptual approach to martial arts and philosophy, the practice of JKD can be fully realized only by those willing to go further and dig deeper.
If this is you, then the JKD can be for you the right path. If not, you better do not go out looking another way.
